Blueberry Crumble Pie for Two

Who is the worst blogger in the history of blogging?  This girl.  It's sad, but everytime I try to put aside some time to write, I get distracted/ busy/ bored.  Now that Jason and I have moved to Boise and I no longer have a job, I decided to focus a lot more on this blog and hopefully be successful with it (at least until the baby comes)!

First things first, a little update on our life!

Jason and I moved to Boise this past June and love it here!  Jason got a job at Lochsa Engineering as a structural engineer and likes it a lot.  We live in a sweet farming town called Middleton and have the sweetest neighbors in the world. We have a beautiful home that sits right on top of the Boise river and every morning I get to open my windows and look out on my beautiful creek!

I am now officially 33 weeks pregnant and feeling like a whale!  I was at Costco the other day and a sample lady looked at me and asked when I was due. After telling her not until September, she put down her spoon, looked at me in the eye and said "You're having a ten pounder. Girl you look like you're about to pop!"  Thank you for pointing my size out lady, that's what every pregnant woman loves to hear!  Needless to say, I'm so ready for this baby of mine!!

Since I am a "stay at home mom" (without a child) right now, I have been doing a ton of DIY projects for the babies room, cooking a lot of new recipes and creating new dishes daily! Can you tell I'm bored??  I am, trust me.

One of those new recipes I created is a Blueberry Crumble Pie for Two! Ever since my second trimester, berries have been my cravings. I cannot get enough berries! I had these beautiful blueberries in my fridge and noticed that they were going to go bad before I could scarf them down, so I decided to make a blueberry pie! Because Jason is not a sweets guy and I definitely don't need a whole pie to eat on my own (although we all know I could), I decided to make a small and simple dessert for two!  No, it is not healthy. However, it is the perfect summer time treat for you and your special someone to chow down on!

Hope you enjoy it as much as Jason and I did!  I promise I'll post a healthy recipe next time ;)

Weekend Get Away

A few weeks ago Jason and I got to stay with my awesome friends Nicole and Justin at their cabin in Island Park!  The night before we got there we went up to Yellowstone to see the play Les Misérables at the Playmill Theater.  Jason and I LOVED it!  It is a small, intimate, interactive theater with some of the most talented people I have ever seen preform.  I was in awe the entire two hours of the play.

After the show, we drove down to Island Park and stayed at Nicole's parents cabin.   The next day we had breakfast, went for a walk, rode some ATV's, went in the hot tub and played games.  It was the perfect weekend.

Nicole is an extremely talented photographer, so we spent the majority of the weekend walking around taking pictures and practicing.  I have never been formally trained in photography so I ate up everything that she had to offer me and I learned a ton!   I took the majority of these pics, but Nicole did take the ones of me.  It's nice to actually get pictures of myself!  I'm usually always on the opposite side of camera :)

We had platapus feet and mismatched socks. My mom would be proud.

Justin is trying to bust a move..They look like a band cover.

The ''much needed" walking sticks.

After the ATV ride, we were MUDDY!  You can't really tell in this picture, but it was literally everywhere!  That's what you get when you let your husband drive.

Tried to take a selfie with my 50mm lens...not the greatest idea, but hey it works!

Had an amazing weekend with some amazing friends.  Idaho is truly beautiful.

Hey Look, I'm Still Here

Radio silence doesn't seem like the right word...more like avoiding. Yes. Avoiding.  I have a confession to make...I hate editing pictures.  Like I really really hate it. And since I cannot keep writing on this blog without having some pretty pictures for everyone to look at, I've decided not to post anything at all.  On top of that, my life is pretty repetitive these days.  Nothing new happening here.  However, I've been wanting to pick it back up again, so here we are!

Updates on our lives:

* Jason just started his second to last semester of school!  He is
taking 17 credits, all upper level engineering courses.
Needless to say, I'm an engineering widow now.

* I am still working as an apartment manager and love it.
Although it takes the majority of my time and energy
to be a mom, accountant, manager, counselor,
and therapist 24/7, I do love it.

* I just made a headboard for our bedroom and completely
redesigned the whole room.  It looks steler if I say
so myself.  Pictures to come.

* I started wearing lipstick.  So that's cool.

* I think I am going to start a cookbook. I'd be good at that right?

See I have nothing cool to write about these days. Which is why I have been avoiding this blog.

On a side note Jordan, Miguel and baby Zeke moved up to Rexy in August!  It's the first time we have lived near each other in over 7 years!  Crazy!  I love it though.  A couple weeks ago we went to the fair.  Yes, Idaho has a fair!  It was full of fried food, terrifying rides and fluffy animals.  Nothing like the Del Mar Fair, but we'll take it!

Well until the next time I can get the strength to write on this thing...

Month of Crazy

I've been slacking on this blog thing for the past month.  I've tried sitting down and writing all that I can, but there is just too much to say.  So instead of making you all sit and read sixteen paragraphs about recent events, you're all just going to get a little taste instead.

In the past month I've...
Had two jobs at one time.
Quite one job and kept the other one.
Moved apartments in a weekend.
Started my new job.
Had two kidney stones and was hospitalized for three days.
Had my car get involved in a hit and run.
Had a car in the complex I manage blow up.
Drove to Salt Lake.
Flew to California.
Went to a baby shower and a 90th birthday party in the same weekend.
Celebrated Jason's 26th birthday.
Planned and executed a Valentines Party for 250 people.
Made more cotton candy than I ever dreamed possible.
Celebrated Valentine's Day with the love of my life.

In the past month Jason's...
Been working hard in school with his 16 credits.
Got a 90% on the hardest test he's taken all semester.
Moved apartments in a weekend.
Took his pained wife to the hospital in the middle of the night.
Stayed in the hospital all night without sleeping, then went to class and work the next morning.
Moved and cleaned the entire apartment by himself and then sold our contract.
Had a food competition with Miguel.  Both failed miserably.
Had poker night with the guys.
Celebrated his 26 years of life.
Got released from his calling in church.
Celebrated Valentine's Day with Chinese food, chocolate strawberries, a good movie and the love of his life :)

Until next time...The Woodhouse's

Cha cha cha changes

Hello there friends! The past two weeks have been crazy, to say the least.  I started a new job two weeks ago as a Behavior Interventionist and Jason started another semester of school.  After the first day of work, I knew that I was not going to be happy with the position that I held.  I tried really hard to have a positive attitude about the job, but by Friday of that first week, I knew that I had to start searching for a new job.  I know what you're thinking, how could you quit a job after only one week?  Well, it was either I find a new job that I could be somewhat happy in or I stay at my current job and remain in misery day in and day out with a plastered fake smile on my face.  I just knew there was another job out there for me and I couldn't shake the feeling that I needed to look for it.

Fast-forward to this past Tuesday: I'm searching on Craigslist and found a property manager job.  I skipped over it and kept looking for something in the education department, but it's Rexburg, ID...there is nothing out here!  So, I decided to just apply for the property manager job and see what happened. That night I got a call from the current manager to set up an interview for the next day.  On Wednesday I went in for the interview, rocked it, and felt like I definitely wanted that job.  Yesterday, I got the offer from the company and by last night I had all the paperwork signed and the keys to our new apartment!  Today I quit my other job and I start this new one on Monday!

Crazy right?  And completely unexpected...me, property manager?  What?  However, Jason and I feel so good about this decision and after we saw the apartment we were going to move into, there was no way we could say no!  So here is the offer we got from this job:  Free rent, utilities, and a salary on top of it with ways to get bonuses as well!  Since I have to live on site for the apartment complex I am managing, this means Jason and I get to live in a two story town home for free!  This place is awesome!  It has the biggest kitchen I have ever seen in an apartment, a pantry (for those who have seen our current apartment, this is a huge deal), two rooms just for storage, two bedrooms, a walk in closet that is big enough to be a room for a small child, all utilities included, a specialized parking spot and access to all the facilities the complex offers including the weight room, theater room, game room, etc.

Needless to say, Jason and I feel so very blessed that we were able to find this new job.  The Lord truly works in mysterious ways and I think that I needed to hate the job I currently had in order to apply for the job I got. Ultimately, we have yet again, been looked out for and we couldn't be happier.  So now it's time to move...I hate moving.  No, I loathe moving.  We have thirty days to get out of our current apartment, so I think that we will take our time moving things over little by little so that the process isn't so miserable :)

Jason's first day skiing!

Over Christmas break, after our San Francisco adventures, Jason and I met up with my family in Park Cit, UT for some skiing and cuddling up by a fire. Every year, my family goes skiing at the famous Deer Valley Resort.  This place is amazing and my absolute favorite place to ski...Jason and I have never gone here together before, however, because he snowboards.  Being a skiers-only resort, Jason had to learn how to ski in order to come with us!  He was such a trooper though and was so willing to jump on some skis and learn.  My dad is an awesome teacher when it comes to skiing, so I knew that Jason was going to learn in no time!

I had no idea how fast he'd learn though!  I can honestly say, I have never seen such a natural in my life.  Jason took one ride down the bunny slope and looked like someone who's been skiing for years!  After a few more runs down harder slopes, he was a pro and was keeping up with the rest of the family, all of whom have been skiing for years!  He was amazing...and I'm not just saying that because he's my husband, he really was!  My dad kept looking at me and saying, "I cannot believe this guy.  I have never seen someone who's picked this up this fast!  Amazing!"  I was dying.  It wasn't long after this point that he was following my brother through winding trees and jumping over small bumps.  My husband, the fearless.

Skiing out of it like a pro!

My little brother jamming down the slope... he's really good.  He beats me down a hill every time without even trying...little punk.

Daddy skiing away...

Mom and Dad getting ready for the day!

You might be wondering, "Where are you in all these pictures Maddie?"  Well, I will tell you.  I am not one who is very fond of the snow.  On the slopes, I tend to be so bundled up that you can hardly see any of my face at all.  Like in the picture below...all you see is my chin and mouth...yup not the most attractive thing I've ever seen. Therefore, I prefer to stay behind the lens on these little trips :)

This was such a fun trip!  I am so proud of Jason and his mad skills!  For his first day of skiing, he is pretty dang amazing! I think that maybe, I might have converted Jason over to skiing from now on...just maybe.
